CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo Literary Center Announce Upcoming Writing with Light Exhibition and Participation in Buffalo Homecoming

CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo Literary Center are proud to announce an upcoming Writing with Light exhibition, featuring work by students from three Buffalo Public Schools: Native American Magnet, Frederick Law Olmsted and Highgate Heights. Writing with Light is a joint venture between CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo Literary Center, encompassing a series of original education programs. These comprehensive in-school, after-school, and summer education programs expand opportunities for a diverse group of youth throughout Buffalo and Erie County. Writing with Light enables students to engage in challenging, thought-provoking activities that integrate core curricular subjects with the literary and photographic arts. These multidisciplinary initiatives have been successful in connecting young people with their families, neighborhoods, and cultural heritage, encouraging self-exploration and creative self-expression. Work from two Writing with Light programs—Picturing Poetry and Flash Fiction — will be on view from June 25 through August 22 in CEPA’s Flux and Passageway Galleries.

On Saturday, June 28, CEPA and Just Buffalo will participate in the Buffalo Homecoming Block Party, taking place on the 600 Block of Main Street from 8:00-11:00 pm. Stop by the Market Arcade for a wine and cheese reception and to view the Writing with Light exhibition. Also on view will be two MFA Thesis Exhibitions by UB graduate students: Scripted Image: (Re) Visions of Authority by Kevin Charles Kline (Underground Gallery), and Enthusiast: Calls and Orders by Joel Brenden (Market Arcade Atrium). As always, admission to CEPA will be free and open to the public. Representatives will be on hand to tell Buffalo Homecoming guests about the benefits of membership at CEPA Gallery, Just Buffalo Literary Center, and Big Orbit Gallery (all part of an administrative partnership), and to sign up new members.

The organizers of Buffalo Homecoming 2008 promise that there will be “something for everyone” at the festivities taking place from June 26-29. “Buffalo Homecoming 2008 is a celebration of the best of Buffalo for those who are in Buffalo because they want to be, and for those who are not in Buffalo, but wish they were...” For more information about Buffalo Homecoming, visit www.buffalohomecoming.com.
